Tracy Fennell (b. 1961, Canonsburg, Pennsylvania) teaches music at the Sussex Academy of the Arts & Sciences in southern Delaware. She had composed a few short pieces in conjunction with her master's degree (Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, 1986), but had not seriously thought of herself as a composer until, in July of 1997, she read of the sudden death of a teenage girl named Krissy Taylor, and was moved to compose a song in her memory. Gliding Home was so well received (the Ballet Theater of Dover even created a dance for it) that Fennell, encouraged, started composing in earnest, and has already created a body of work sufficient to reveal a strikingly assured and original style for one so isolated from the major centers of contemporary music creation and performance. These works are now published by Kallisti Music Press.
